Final Hazard Report Thailand is a Southeast Asian country surrounded by bodies of water. The two natural hazards that often occur are tsunamis and floods. Tsunamis are waves caused by movement of the ocean due to earthquakes and landslides on the sea floor. Tsunamis in Thailand occur because the Pacific Rim bordering the Ocean has a large number of active submarine earthquake zones. The impact of disaster variability and extreme natural hazard results in not only loss of human lives, but also damage to infrastructure, disruption of livelihoods and loss of economic activities. The 2004 tsunami in Thailand was the worst natural disaster Thailand has ever experienced. On December 26, 2004 a tsunami occurred in the Indian Ocean. This can be labeled as a priority because of the amount of lives lost during this natural hazards. An estimated 230,000 people were killed making it the sixth deadliest natural disaster in history. It was the result of the Indio-Australian Plate subducting...

Thailand's coast consists of sandy beaches, dunes, coastal wetlands, rocky coasts, cliff coast and islands. Some of the country's coastal problems consist of beach pollution, coastal erosion, reduction of coastal wetland, and reduction of sedimentary supply. These problems can be pointed in the direction to increasingly polluted coastal environment caused by natural processes and human activities. Coastal problems in Thailand can be solved by appropriate technologies and management approaches. The main cause of failure of achieving success is the overlapping responsibilities among the government agencies. The Thai Marine Policy and Restoration Committee responsibilities include are to study , prepare the policy and measure to develop the coastal area and environment degradation and to alert people. According to Natural Hazards, "atmospheric processes and energy exchanges are driven by Earth's energy balance and linked to climate and weather." Examples of severe weather can be anything from hurricanes, blizzards, and tornadoes. Severe weather results from "intense precipitation, are all natural processes that are hazardous to people." (p. 287) Thailand experiences extreme rainfall and flooding due to its tropical climate. In December of 2016, twelve of Thailand’s 14 southern provinces experienced heavy rainfall. Thus leading to the result of major flooding. Climate Scorecard statistics stated that Thailand "experienced around 226 mm (almost 9 inches) of rainfall in the first two days of December." This led to major distraction on property and land. Many farms were ruined and about 360, 000 people were affected with 14 deaths. Rainfall continued causing more damage leading the increased risks of landslides and flash floods. Thailand's go...

According to Owlcation, mass wasting is the geologic term used to describe the natural downward movement of landforms due to gravity. Mass wasting hazards can ranged from earth flows, landslides, mud and debris flow to rockslides and slumps. The country of Thailand to be particular is quite familiar with landslides. Due to the heavy amount of rainfall in Thailand landslides happen quite often. In the year of 2017 Thailand's National Disaster Warning Center announced the completion of a trial for a system that identifies areas where there is danger of a landslide occurring. This is just one of the things the country is trying to prevent from mass wasting hazards. Destruction as the picture above demonstrates is the reason as to why Thailand is trying to prevent hazards such as this one, also the destructions of roads is why matters are taking into affect. http://www.nec.com/en/press/201704/global_20170425_01.html https://owlcation.com/stem/Geologic_Hazards_Mass_Wasting_L...

Welcome back! Today we will be discussing Thailand's volcanic activity. As far as any recent activity no updates have been posted in about two to three years. Other countries surrounded by Thailand such as Indonesia has faced some sort of volcanic eruptions. In the year 2014, Indonesia was faced with the aftermath of two volcanic eruptions. In the month of February 2014 at least 34 people were killed questioning, the country if it's well equipped to handle such thing.

In relations to Earth's plate tectonics, Thailand falls under the category of Eurasian plate. http://education.maps.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?layers=69cb1f185afa47528708dbaa89e0729b&useExisting=1 According to Southeast Asia Research Group, " It is surrounded on all sides by volcanic and seismic activity, including the subduction at the Sumatra-Java-Timor trench, and collision between Australia and eastern Indonesia." Certain hazards that occur in Thailand could be anything from flooding, droughts, tropical storms, earthquakes, and landslides. https://reliefweb.int/sites/reliefweb.int/files/resources/OCHA_ROAP_Tectonics_v1_2014_0.pdf

Hello and Welcome! I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Briana. I just wanted to say thank you for visiting my blog! The country I'll be discussing during the course will be Thailand. In order to get an understanding of Thailand's geological features, terms and their definitions must be discussed. A catastrophe is a major disaster that requires a significant amount of money and requires a long time for recovery. While, a disaster is a limited event in a specific area that has affected 100 people or killed 10 people. A natural hazard is a threatening natural event, that is a threat to human life and property. Lastly, natural processes only are a hazard when humans stand in the way.
